The Rusted Rooster Outdoor Production School Experience
Rusted Rooster Production School is going on it’s 11th year, making it the longest running video school in the industry. We will help answer the questions you might have about the outdoor television and video industry and touch on the skills that can enable you to work for yourself as a freelance or professional outdoor field producer. From effectively using POV cameras in the tree stand to capturing aerial footage at 2,000 feet, we’ll cover all of the latest and greatest gear and how to integrate it into your production. We’ll break down and analyze videos and television from some of the most successful outdoor production companies in the industry and discover why they are truly as successful as they are, but that’s not it. This school will also take a deeper behind-the-scenes look at what has gone into some of the projects Rusted Rooster has recently produced for Animal Planet. From character development to camera movement, and audio mixing to color correction, see what goes into the production of mainstream television, and learn how to integrate those same elements into outdoor television.
If you are interested or have any questions, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. Non-refundable deposit to hold a spot is $750 with the remaining balance due the first day of the school.
About the Adobe Editing School
Our next Adobe Editing School will be held at the Rusted Rooster Studio in Midland, MI, from March 6-8. This session include hands on training from our editors in using Adobe Premiere Pro, including how to quickly create rough cuts, professional finishing techniques, telling a captivating story through your edits, and many other skills you need to become a master video editor. As always, there will be plenty of time for questions. Meals and lodging are included.
About the Field Production School
There is an opportunity for a limited number of students to attend this session in Sidney, OH, from April 24-26. You will be going into the field and working alongside the field producers of Dropped and Rival Wild on a turkey hunt. Our classes have always been intensely focused on what the professional field producer needs to know when in the field. We are looking for students with at least one year of production in the field and some knowledge of manual camera operation, but any student with a real desire to learn the trades is a good candidate. While it isn’t imperative to bring a camera with you, it is highly encouraged so you can get more familiar with what you’ll be using this spring and fall.
This course is also great for the Television Producers who are looking to improve the content and storytelling ability of their Field Producers. A show is only as good as the people running the camera. We go through the process of building shot sheets before the hunt and efficiently logging the footage once the hunt is over…a process any producer will love. We also will touch on a lot of the new camera tricks and techniques currently being used in not only the Outdoor Industry, but also the Production Industry in general. The course will cover various scenarios where we identify which type of camera is needed, and from there, identify what the appropriate camera movement is. By matching these two key elements, it allows for the field producer to give each shot a certain feel, and in the end, evoke emotion in the viewer and allow them to connect more to the production; a skill that is imperative to producing a high-end television show today.
Part of what has made our school a success over the last ten years has been the limited number of spots that we offer to ensure the hands-on and one-on-one type of training we are known for. Rusted Rooster will give you every opportunity to grow yourself, while networking with contacts within the industry that can help you get to the next level. If you’re looking to start your own television show, you will have the opportunity to sit down with Chris and Casey Keefer and discuss exactly what goes into starting your own show, on both the hunting and production sides.
